Phase 1 Summary

The main objective of the first project phase "Assumptions and theories, studies and analysis of materials and technologies that can generate hard layers with particular characteristics' was to develop new theories and hypotheses, while carrying out studies and analysis of the materials and the technologies that aim to layers can generate special characteristics harsh.

Is an important step for developing the project further because synthesize, in a first phase, the knowledge gained to date in this area, develops new research achievements in a particular direction intensely concerned with the international scientific community, that of the hard layers with particular characteristics. Hard layers can solve many technical and technological problems of the moment which to date could not be resolved or, in case of unforeseen needs, such as the issue addressed by this project, researchers were forced to adopt solutions that clearly affects environment surroundings.

The hard, advanced layers, potentially usable in the aeronautical industry, is based on a very important feature that virtually dictate their performance, it is the depth of diffusion hardening elements. Therefore the first task of the project was dedicated to this area focusing on a feature that will interest us greatly in the further research, the influence of the surface configuration on the depth of diffusion of the elements.

The next step up is a very important area to achieve a hardening performance possible alliance between elements in order to obtain hard layers. In so doing they were attacked on two aspects, can alloy elements (known as hardening) of the material and can be hard alloying elements in order to get a material (superior hardening properties) for further realization of the hard layers.

The international experience in the field showed indisputably that the technological parameters used to achieve hard coatings greatly influence their characteristics.

The methods of making the hard layers in correlation with the possible material used in the equation are investigated by introducing technological parameters which features layers getting tough to compete.

A symbiosis between these factors lead to the achievement of outstanding performance as allow use hard coatings obtained in the aeronautical industry. At this stage, special attention was paid to support materials, characteristics that they must meet to achieve a higher diffusion leading to obtain a hardened layer performance. We studied the degree of deformation of materials, structure and properties.

Another activity of the first stage was dedicated to the elaboration of hypotheses regarding the influence of the surface quality support materials and the thermo chemical treatments can be applied in order to achieve the upper layers of adhesive material support tough.

The first project phase has proposed to submit to the research the main directions we realize at this time, that major influences the generation of the hard layers with particular characteristics.

Progress

1. Study regarding the influence of surface configurations upon the diffusion depth of the hardening elements
2. Study regarding possible alloyings between elements with the goal to obtain hard coverings
3. Study regarding the influence of thermal spray technological parameters upon the properties of the coverings obtained
4. Study regarding the influence of the deformation degree of the support material upon the diffusion of the hardening elements
5. Study regarding the influence of quality and thermochemical treatment of surfaces upon the adherence of the hard coverings
