The first step in this project was to establish the combustion chamber geometry that will be used during this project. The flow through this chamber was simulated using CFX 11, and analysis was spitted in two. First simulation was made without combustion (Fig. 1) and the second one with combustion (Fig. 2).

Fig. 1 Flow simulation in the chamber without combustion

Fig. 2 Flow simulation in the chamber with combustion

The turbulence model used in these analyses was k-ε and the combustion model used was Eddy Dissipation.

For experimental part of the project the test stand that will be used is: the Combustion chamber test facility from National Research and Development of Gas Turbines COMOTI, BUCHAREST – this is a thermodynamic complex for experiment and study of combustion of different fuel types (Fig. 3)

Fig. 3 Description of the combustion facility

To measure velocity in the combustion chamber it will be used mainly the PIV (particle induced velocimetry) – This technique can measure the instantaneous velocity field in a certain part of the flow field.

For temperature field measurement it will be used mainly the LIF (laser induced fluorescence)- this is a technique based on spectroscopy. The emission of fluorescent light depends on particularities of stimulation, for example, wave length, laser power, band width, etc. Each individual stimulation process can lead to different emissions.
