Moinesti - Natural gas compression equipment with screw compressor unit 80.000 operating hours without overhauls

On November 3rd, 2015 COMOTI organized a workshop dedicated to promoting the experience that the institute has in research and production of natural gas compression equipments, particularly in manufacturing packages with screw compressors.

The workshop took place at Zemes hotel, near Moinesti, Bacau county, and it was occasioned by achieving 80.000 operating hours, without overhauls, of one of the first natural gas compression equipments with screw compressor with oil injection made by COMOTI under GHH Rand licence.

In organizing this event contributed OMV-PETROM, the beneficiary of the equipment, which showed a particular interest in this action and expressed its satisfaction with the reliability of the equipment and thus with the low operating costs, so its representatives in various areas of exploitation were present in large numbers.

The other compression equipments in the area installed by COMOTI 8-10 years ago, the screw electrocompressors for exploiting gas fields showed good reliability, according to the forecast. At this contributed greatly both the equipment design and the maintenance service which is provided promptly and effectively by COMOTI`s service team.

This event highlighted once again the special quality that COMOTI provides in Romanian economy, representing a particular example where the applied research is valued by its own equipment production with advanced features and market value.

AERODAYS 2015, London - Success of Romanian R&D aeronautics activity

Between the 20th and the 23th of October, 2015, the European Commission organized in London, UK, the 7th European Aeronautics Days "Aerodays 2015", the European flagship event in aviation research and innovation which takes place once, during each EU Research Framework Program.

The National Research and Development Institute for Gas Turbines COMOTI were invited to participate in the event with the FP 7 European research project no. 335091 - "Tangential Impulse Detonation Engine" TIDE.

The project aims at developing a novel aviation engine concept, based on replacing the turbine in a classical gas turbine engine by a set of rotating pulse detonation chambers that both drive the engine compressor, required to raise the pressure upstream of the pulse detonation combustors to the value needed to achieve supersonic flow in the combustor's Laval nozzle, and also provide the engine thrust.

The project coverage included both an oral presentation in one of the technical sessions of the event, and the display of a scaled engine model and of posters in a dedicated booth in one of the event's exhibition rooms.

Both the activities were very successful, attracting the interest of several important stakeholders in the aviation engine research, development and manufacturing field, such as the European Defense Agency, SNECMA and TURBOMECA - France, DLR - Germany, CIAM - Russia, IVCHENKO PROGRESS - Ukraine, BAE Systems - UK, the "von Karman" Institute for Fluid Dynamics, Belgium, and the Universities of Milan and Glasgow, to name only the most significant institutions that expressed their interest in learning more about the project and its results.

COMOTI National Research & Development for Gas turbines was selected within 47 partners in the European Project OPENAIR-FP7-234313 coordinated by SNECMA, France (along with three important names in the aeronautic field: DLR-Braunschweig, airframe technologies; Snecma -Villaroche, active stator and CNRS Poitier, active nozzle) to participate in a movie (in 24 January 2011, at COMOTI), funded by European Commission and which demonstrates, show clearly the importance and the role of COMOTI’ activities in the project OPENAIR. The movie was presented at the 6th edition of „European Aeronautics Days” AERODAYS in 28 march 2011-2 April 2011, in Madrid, Spain, showing a real interest for the participants in this event.
